The "Run for Resiliency" 5K race is more than just a run; it's a statement of solidarity and support for the Afghan Special Operations Community, who were critical allies with the US Military during the Global War on Terrorism. This event welcomes runners, walkers, and supporters of all ages and fitness levels. Whether you are a seasoned runner or new to the 5K scene, your participation will contribute to the vital work of Honor the Promise.

As you race through the scenic course, you'll not only be challenging yourself but also standing in support of Afghan Special Operations Veterans, helping them build resilience and successfully integrate into American society. Together, we can ensure they feel a sense of belonging and pride in their new home. In this 5k Walk + Run event, you will have an opportunity to run alongside Afghan and US Special Forces. Join us for a day of community, camaraderie, and commitment to a cause that truly makes a difference.

This event is not chip-timed, but all race times will be recorded at the finish line and posted on the event webpage no later than 10/7/2024.

About the Fundraiser

Welcome to the inaugural "Run For Resiliency" 5K race! This special event is organized to support the Afghan Special Operations Community, a key ally to the U.S. Military in our decades long war in Afghanistan, as they rebuild their lives in the United States. By participating in this race, you are helping to bridge the gaps in the system and anticipate the long-term needs of these brave Afghan men and women. Your support will enable Afghan Special Operations Veterans, along with their families, to build resilience and fully integrate into their American communities so they can ultimately achieve their American Dream. Join us in making a tangible difference in the lives of those who served alongside the U.S. military in the Global War on Terror.

EVENT DETAILS - Sunday, October 6th 2024

Location: 8999 Fort Hunt Road, Alexandria, VA 22308  - We are staged at Pavilion B near Parking Area B. Once you enter the park, stick to the right lane, and then turn right (this is a one way which circles the whole park). There is a large parking area and participants can park any where that's available in the park. We will also have a sign indicating our start/stop area.

Time: Please arrive between 0730-0800 to check in and to receive your race packet. 0800 is the pre-brief with our hosts and motivational speaker. We will start the 5k Walk/Run at 0830! All participants must finish by 930am... So at minimum please try to keep a 20 minute mile pace (casual-brisk walk).

Checking in: Between 0730-0800, our check in station will be at Pavilion B in Fort Hunt Park which is directly next to our staging area. You will see signs and our volunteers will direct you to the station. Please have IDs from all registered parties. All paid registrants that registered before 9/20 will receive the priority T Shirts. Anyone who registered between 9/20 - 9/28 will receive the race t shirts on first come first serve basis. If you do not receive a shirt, we will make sure you will be priority at our next events! There will be fruits, water, and gatorade before the 5k.

Weather Considerations (See reference below): We are expecting the sun to come up around 0713 and the temperature will range between 60-75 degrees Fahrenheit (cooler side in the morning). There are no expected precipitation, but I would probably advise to bring something for any potential changes. This is actually going to be the perfect weather conditions for running!

5K Walk/Run Course (See Reference below): During the 5k Walk/Run, all participants will be on the main road circling the park. The LEFT LANE is closed off for all foot traffic and cyclists and therefore open to the general public as well. There are also signs and markers indicating the direction to walk and run as participants will pretty much complete two loops around the park (5K/3.1 miles). We also have volunteers and support staff throughout the course, who will wear a vest/sports pinnies.

Closing Celebration and Recognitions: At 0930, we will gather underneath the pavilion in vicinity of the finish line. We will give special recognition to those who placed first in particular categories and share some closing remarks. Once the walkers/runners finish the course, there will be refreshments and also the opportunity to engage with Special Operation veterans from both the Afghan and US military. Personal connection and story telling is one of the ways we build resilience in our community!

**IF YOU SERVED OR ARE A FAMILY MEMBER OF AN AFGHAN MILITARY VETERAN, PLEASE CONTACT US TO RECEIVE A PROMO CODE TO PARTICIPATE**

Course Map
