We know many people can run 26.2 miles, but have you ever tried to run further in a single day? There is no better time to do something you'll remember for the rest of your life—on Feb 20-21 discover what you're made of by participating in the 24 Hours of Richmond. Your mind, body, & grit will be put to the ultimate test when you set out to discover just how far you can run in 24 hours. Accept winter’s toughest challenge & run with us!

You can complete your miles anywhere you want, including on a treadmill! This is about how many miles you (or your 4-person team) cover and not the speed in which you cover them!


The 24 hour challenge begins for everyone at 9:00 am EST on February 20 and ends 9:00 am EST February 21

How It Works

You can run 1.1 miles every hour to complete 26.4 miles in one day. Easy! Now let’s say you want to sleep for 8 hours and only be active for 16 hours.  You still could run/walk 1.65 miles per hour for 16 hours and you would still reach 26.4 miles.

Plan your 24 hours so you’ll have time to eat, hydrate, shower, change clothes—how you choose to tackle this event is up to you! You can rack up big miles and then brag about it with your great participant swag!



Full results will be ranked by mileage completed. You will just need to keep track of your mileage with an app (such as Strava, Run Go, or Trailfork) to validate your total distance. Remember, total distance includes any mileage accumulated between 9:00 am on Sat, Feb 20, and 9:00 am on Sun, Feb 21.

Results submission close Feb 22 at 6:00 pm.

  • 24 Hours of Richmond Key Ring with special pendants for each milestone reached!
    (Pendants will be awarded based on reaching the following milestones: 26.3 miles, 50km, 50 miles, 100km, or 100 miles.)
  • Unique Participant Item

Our goal is to start shipping participant swag by mid-March. We will provide any updates on our website.



  • Solo: Individuals accumulate mileage on their own.
  • Teams: Teams of up to 4 runners can add their miles together. The cumulative total of all your miles over the 24 hour period will be your total team mileage.

Let’s Go, RVA! Sports Backers mission is to inspire active living in all corners of our community. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to producing quality sporting events & programs that motivate residents & visitors to be more active, supporting youth running & fitness programs, & advocating for safe bike & pedestrian infrastructure. 


Due to COVID-19, we had to stop all in-person events & cancel all in-person programming in the Spring. But, our staff is hard at work bringing virtual & social distancing options to our region including virtual & outside fitness classes, virtual kids physical activity videos & classes, workout challenges, virtual events, &, most recently, socially distanced in-person events.
