COURSE DESCRIPTION & INFO
The 7.23-mile course kicks off at the base of the K-1 Gondola. With 3,133 feet of elevation gain, you’ll end up summiting three of Killington Resort’s six peaks before the end of your run. You’ll start off towards Snowdon Peak, snaking up rugged work roads before embarking on a steep climb to your first peak of the day at 1.2 miles in. After circling the top of the Snowdon Six, you’ll head towards Killington’s North Ridge area, first along more service roads before another steep climb up the aptly named Ridge Run. You’ll then make a quick trip into the woods towards Cooper’s Cabin, the highest shelter on Vermont’s historic Long Trail. Following a brief trek on both the Long Trail and the Appalachian Trail, you’ll reach Killington Peak, the highest point in the race at 4241'ft, where you’ll be surrounded by stunning panoramic views of the Green Mountains. Catch your breath before beginning your 2.5-mile descent, first by zooming around Skye Peak to reach Bear Mountain Peak, another spot for gorgeous views. Your journey continues down Bear Cub through the steepest downhill section of the course and past the Bear Mountain Lodge before a long, steady trip up Bearly and back down towards the Northbrook area. At the 6-mile mark, you’ll endure your last sharp ascent up Vertigo before reaching the top of the Needle’s Eye Quad. Finally, a trip down Bittersweet will have you feeling just that way before passing the bottom of the Superstar chairlift and finishing out the race right where you started.
**The race course is located in the Green Mountain National Forest.
**Course subject to change as necessary
**Every competitor is subject to a strict cut-off time, at Killington Peak summit, of 2 hrs (competitor will take Chairlift back down). Please note this is a placeholder, cutoff to be defined in May as race approaches. We typically see 2-20 people not make cutoff700 ft' elevation gain)
SAFETY LANGUAGE
The course is steep, rocky, grassy, wet & slippery. You will be pushing hard for the summit, putting yourself to your capacity, lungs, grit, and strength. Please note, we will have the course well marked, it is imperative, for your safety, you follow precise path of flagging. Please be mindful of other competitors, if you encounter an injured competitor please inform the nearest course Marshall, EMT or Rescue Services. Course is well marked with orange flagging, if you suddenly find yourself on a path without immediate orange flags to indicate the route, please turn around, go back the way you came until you get back on trail with orange flags.
We will provide hydration for all participants at two aid stations & finish line.
Cancellation / Refund Policy: the race organizers reserve the ability to cancel the event due to unsafe weather, any variety of circumstances, etc. Race organizers will make the best decisions when it comes to protecting the safety of all runners. This means we reserve the right to adjust, cancel, reroute, or reschedule as we see fit.
Because the bulk of our costs come before the event even occurs we will not be able to extend refunds to those who wish to cancel their registration. We will assess things appropriately & fairly, to the best of our abilities. If the race is popular enough to create a waiting list, we will also treat your entry fairly with specifics TBD.
Race registration is non transferable & cannot be rolled over to subsequent races. We will always treat our community fairly but also ask that you be sympathetic about the realities of putting on a great event. Anyone running under a bib assigned to another athlete will be banned from future Cirque Series Races, we take this very seriously because it creates a safety issue.
