The obstacle monitor is an important and fun volunteer position as you will be stationed at an obstacle to ensure safety while cheering on each racer and dog as they complete the obstacle.
As you arrive in the morning you will be assigned an obstacle and directed to its location on the course. You will be provided with an informational lanyard to wear, listing the contact information of the Event Safety Director, the UltiMutt Staff, and procedure to follow in case of an injury or emergency. After you are stationed at your obstacle you will be responsible for ensuring racers are attempting the obstacle in a safe manner, which may include; encouraging racers and praising their dogs, answering any questions asked about how to conquer the obstacle, assist in holding a dog's leash while the owner attempts the obstacle, making sure no dogs are being forced to complete an obstacle against their will, and bringing any issues to the attention of the Safety Director. We would prefer there to be 2 volunteers per obstacle. If there are enough volunteers, it may be possible to rotate the volunteers between different obstacle stations throughout the day. *Please note, during the competitive waves, if an owner and/or their dog are not able to complete an obstacle, they must step to a designated area off course and complete 30 squats. Racers are allowed to attempt an obstacle as many times as they like.* Perks of being an obstacle volunteer include: being a memorable part of each racer's experience, complimentary water and snacks, and UltiMutt Volunteer Tshirt.
