Description

WARHORSE Challenges have partnered up with Copper Horse Crusade to hold our third ever Ride to Freedom event.   This is an inexpensive event of $15 with $10 of the cost going to Copper Horse Crusade 501(c) 3  rescue.  We will be sending out a sticker with an amish buggy with RICKY on it to remind us all of the horses that still need saving, though also of the one that already has been spared.   Ricky served his Amish family 14 of his years, and the children asked their father to please not send him to auction.   So he contacted Copper Horse Crusade, and here is the rest of the story:

(This excerpt is from Copper Horse Crusade)

""Hello my name is ______ Miller. I am looking to give my 23 year old horse to a good home. We have had him for the past 14 years. He has been used as our buggy horse during that time. Our family doesn't want to send him to the slaughter pen. Is this something you have interest in?"
If you have followed my page for any length of time, you know that I do not have a favorable opinion of the amish... Week after week, I see theit used up buggy horses and broken down plow horses in the kill pen. In freezing rain or 90° heat, their "buggy motors" are out pounding the pavement with seemingly no regard from their "quaint and charming" owners. But there may be a few amish that do care about their horses as evidenced by the message above... The last thing we needed right now was an older retired buggy motor, but I could not turn the amish guy away that wanted to do right by his horse. (Turns out it wasn't actually *him* that cared about the horse, but his kids didn't want the family horse to go to slaughter.) Anyway, please welcome Ricky to Copper Horse Crusade. Kudos to Mr. Miller for listening to his kids and contacting CHC instead of having someone haul Ricky to the sale. Hopefully we will be able to transition him into a home where his years and miles will give someone confidence in his steady standie nature."

Ricky is a lucky standardbred because he found his way to Copper Horse Crusade.  This a different kind of freedom ride. Copper Horse has a feeling that since Ricky is 23, he may be waiting at Copper Horse a long time.   All the more reason for us to rally together and send some support in care of Ricky.

This is the third horse we are trying to help with a short 1 day 1 horse event.   My hope for this event is to garner enough funds to send to Copper Horse Crusade to help by givine them some support in the brave rescue of Ricky and keeping him away from the slaughter pipeline.  Let's help Copper Horse Crusade save one more.

Tell a friend, let's network to not only help Copper Horse Crusade, though let's also network to help this gentle old Standardbred find his soft resting place, his forever home.   He is now in quarantine at Copper Horse Crusade and they are getting to know him to help him find his soft landing.

How this works.  Ride Walk Run or Drive - or spend time with your horse and dedicate that time or miles to this  elder little Standardbred, whose children in his life cared about him enough to plead for his wellbeing to their father.

We will be sending you a momento of this rescue horse and we will be sending the $10 per entry fee to Copper Horse Rescue in Ohio.  ONE HORSE-ONE RIDE.    The last horse we helped with was hip #431, before that it was hip #809 and now we hope to add Ricky to that list of horses helped. If we are able to have 50 sign ups, we  to send $500.  We have to have a short window for sign up because we want to send these funds to Copper Horse Crusade as soon as possible and then go onto the next horse and the next month if there is still interest.

Thank you for your continued partnership in our efforts to help this horse rescue.
