2022 Logo

The event's artwork changes every year to celebrate all there is to love about the Trail! This year's art features the People of the Road Sculptures which pay tribute to the thousands of workers who built the locomotives and rail cars made in Milwaukee Road’s Menomonee Valley Shops. The 5k route goes right through the heart of the former Milwaukee Road Shops which flourished from 1848 to 1985. People of the Road is a powerful reminder of the role the Milwaukee Road and its employees played in the history of Milwaukee and beyond. The Friends of Hank Aaron State Trail completed the fundraising and installation of this five-sculpture historical monument in July of 2020, and it is part of the 2022 5k route. Learn more about the People of the Road sculptures.

New Route

You asked and we listened! Due to popular demand, we have reworked the 2022 5k route to include less road and more trail. New in 2022, the 5k route will include running along both the north and south sides of the Hank Aaron State Trail through Three Bridges Park giving participants more time in nature along the Trail and the Menomonee River. See the route here.

Family & Stroller Friendly Event

The HAST 5K is a family-friendly event. You don’t have to be a runner to participate – you are most welcome to walk the course and strollers are welcome! We do ask that strollers cue up at the back of the group. If you are not interested in your time, please choose the “untimed” 5k event. This will help boost your proceeds to the Trail!
