The Cause
The proceeds from this race will contribute to a scholarship fund in honor of Cpl. William B. Fulks and support this local Marine Corps League Detachment in its pursuit to serve veterans of our community.
This trail event is an annual tribute to this local hero who was assigned to the 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. On May 1, 2006, Cpl. Fulks was wounded while conducting combat operations in Anbar Province, Iraq by an improvised explosive device (IED) which detonated beneath his Humvee near Fallujah. The blast inflicted second and third degree burns along with internal injuries. Cpl. Fulks succumbed to his wounds on Thursday, May 18, 2006.
Race Details

The events will start by the new Huntington Federal Shelter at the back of the bowl which is a 10 minute walk from the parking lot at Hurricane City Park.
Signs and volunteers will direct participants from the Hurricane City Park parking lot to the start / finish line.
Registration will be located by the shelter and start / finish line in the back of the bowl.
Portable restrooms available at the start / finish line.
There will be a ceremony and briefing at 8:45 AM and all races start at 9:00 AM.
Ruck race requirements: - A rucksack with a ruck plate (or equivalent) in your rucksack (30 lb. requirement for MEN, 20 lb. requirement for WOMEN)
The Course
The 5K course will start by the shelter and head on the gravel bowl road to Hager’s Connector to Newhouse Dive, Homebuilder, Alestock’s Connector, Bad Benches Trail, A.D. Ellison Connector. This intersection (by the upper parking lot) will have a water station and is the course split for the 10K. Merge onto Young Run / Kudlak’s Kut to Whites Wheel, down Bad Benches, merge onto Toll Flow, and Skeeney D.
The 10K course will split at the water station on A.D. Ellison Connector to Lyle,s Mile (water station on the pipeline) Supper Sizemore, Kudlak’s Kut. Water station at the upper parking lot before merging back into the 5K course. Whites Wheel, down Bad Benches, merge onto Toll Flow, and Skeeney D.
The race will finish on the small pump track back to the shelter start / finish.
The courses will be marked with pink ribbon and red directional arrows 5K, blue directional arrows 10K.
