Do you love red chile as much as we do?! Join us for the 2nd Annual Red Chile Cook-off at Canteen Brewhouse on Saturday, November 16th from 1-3pm. Red chile is a staple in NM and we all enjoy tasting different chiles. If you are interested in sampling delicious red chile and helping crown the 2024 Canteen Chile Champion get your ticket today!

Red Chile Tasting Tickets $20- Select this ticket option if you would like to eat delicious red chile! You will receive a sample of each red chile concoction, tortilla chips, a pint of Canteen beer or root beer, a carton of milk and a vote for the best red chile. There is a limited number of tickets available. Red chile tasting will begin at 1pm and the Canteen Chile Champion will be crowned at 3pm. 

Red Chile Cooks $20-Think you have the best red chile in NM? If you are interested in competing in the competition, please select the RED CHILE COMPETITION option when purchasing a ticket. Red chile cooks will also receive a tray of chile to sample, chips, a pint of beer or root beer, and a vote in the competition. This event is limited to 16 red chile cooks and you must purchase a RED CHILE COMPETITION ticket to compete. We will crown a Canteen Chile Champion with a prize after all of our tasters have voted.

The Red Chile Competition will take place at Canteen Brewhouse 2381 Aztec Rd NE Albuquerque, NM 87107 on Saturday, November 16th from 1-3pm.

Official Rules of the Canteen Red Chile Competition-

1.     You are entering only one chile (as an individual or as a team).

2.     This is NM Red Chile.  Not any of the Texas stuff.  No beans. 

3.     Meat. Vegetarian. Both are okay.  Just let us know so we can let the tasters know.  

4.     Must provide at least 10 pints of chile (5 quarts) but we are in the business of beer, so everything comes in pints. 

5.     Chile must arrive by 12:30PM hot and something to keep it at temperature (crock pot or camp stove). If you do not have something to keep it hot, we have extra.  Let us know. 

6.     Tasting will begin at 1PM and conclude at 3PM. Votes will be counted and the Canteen Chile Champion will be crowned post tasting!

7.    Cooks will receive a tray of chile at 3pm, so that no cheating or persuasion can occur. Drinking can begin right away. No buying of votes or bribing of judges.

8.     Trash talking is welcome. But bullying is not.  No making fun of other people’s chile.  Unless it’s Texas or Colorado chile, then all bets are off.

9.     Beers must be drunk. Unless you don’t drink. Then just drink water (or a tasty N/A beverage). Heck, everyone should be drinking water too.
