Hello! I'm raising money for Oakland Public Schools by riding with friends from Oakland to Sacramento (110 miles!).
Every year, Oaklanders of all stripes including teachers and parents of OUSD children ride all the way to our state capital to help support education.
I met a friend who is a principal in Fruitvale (East Oakland) - he mentioned to me both that he is riding R4AR to Sacramento with me, and also the money raised is HUGELY HELPFUL to him as an educator. Most funding at school has a lot of restrictions and caveats regarding how you can spend it. The money raised here is unrestricted, which helps him navigate surprise financial needs as they come up.
He told me to share that unrestricted funds are "paying for experiences beyond the curriculum like field trips, camping, retreats for kids to build culture, materials for arts integration, and an our case, support for internship programs to get students real life work experience. With reductions and unrestricted funds being astronomical at the moment, every penny counts."
Chip in if you can! Thanks in advance!
