On October 2nd, my family and I joined by many friends will be participating in a 5K put on by North Star Reach.
As many of you know by now, North Star Reach is a camp for kids with chronic illnesses, who wouldn’t be able to go to camp otherwise. To our family, it is more than just a camp. It is Amanda’s special place. The place that allowed her to be her true self and not be defined by her illness. North Star Reach offered her a community of people who understood what she was going through more than we ever could. She met some of her very best friends there and I am forever grateful for them and their friendships.
Amanda only got to attend camp as a camper three years, but even after her time as a camper, she was invested in camp. She wanted to help provide the same experience she got to other kids and help them find their voice and place in the world. She planned to help them for years to come and I know she would’ve done great things for these kids. Since she is not here to do it, we are trying to honor her wishes and support this camp that felt like home to her.
We have made a team for the 5K and would love anyone who would like to participate in Amanda’s honor to join us. If you are not able to participate, please consider making a donation to my fundraiser. My uncle's office at Reinhart has committed to matching what we raise 50% so if there is a donation of 20 dollars, they donate 10 dollars for a total of 30 dollars. Small donations add up!
Thank you all!
