My name is Leslie Doig, and I teach therapeutic classes to survivors of brain injury at facilities run by Supportive Living, Inc (SLI). I am raising money to support the "Articulture" classes, a new program that combines expressive arts with the benefits of nature.
As part of SLI's Neuro-Wellness program, these special classes bring together art and nature to boost mental wellness, fine motor skills, and independence. Creating with nature helps reduce stress—especially for those who can't easily get outside. By bringing nature into the classroom, we can help participants experience the beauty and benefits of the natural world directly. Among the students' favorite projects so far have been creating and maintaining a real terrarium (it even has a Venus flytrap!), completing neurographic art, constructing a quilt made of painted popsicle sticks, and developing cyanotype sun-prints.
Funds raised from my 5K race will be used to continue this program and our future endeavors, including making hammered-flower art, building winter wind chimes, creating driftwood icicles, and constructing a mosaic with sea glass.
With your support, survivors of brain injury can experience the neurological benefits of blending art with nature - Articulture - to continue their efforts towards independence.
There are many ways you can help - make a donation, join Team SLI to participate in the race, or simply share this fundraiser. Your support will directly impact the lives of people working every day toward greater independence and well-being.
I'm thankful for the many friends, family members, and colleagues who have supported a cause so close to my heart over the years. If you are able, I would be so grateful to have your support again.
Thank you!
