Usually this time of year, I'd be running alongside residents of a local halfway house. Warming up together, running alongside each other, sharing stories, hugs, and our answers to the "Question of the Day." The current times have changed that.
I miss those connections. I know how much they mean to me, but more importantly, I know how much they mean to our resident members. MiMs brings more than running- it brings positive human connections to people that often feel isolated from society, even more so now.
I think this time has really shown us how important human connection is. I'm asking for your support of MiMs to make sure we can continue to provide those crucial connections when we are all able to join back together.
Help us reach our goal of $37K and help MiMS bring the transformative power of running to even more people experiencing homelessness in 2020.
Mile in My Shoes (MiMS) brings together residents of the Twin Cities with diverse backgrounds through the power of running. Based in homeless shelters and re-entry centers for people exiting incarceration, MiMS is as a catalyst for community-building, boosting health and wellness, building leadership and self-efficacy, and spurring personal and social action. By running together, our Resident Members and Run Mentors not only find common ground, but begin to learn from and reach out to one another for support. As our runners say, "Every mile changes you."
Our Mission
We run together to change perceptions and change lives.
Our Vision
Our teams will build bonds, boost wellness, and spark social action by bringing the power of running to people experiencing homelessness and other barriers.
