Thank you so much for visiting my fundraising page! This is my third year fundraising and running the Columbus Half Marathon, and every mile has a purpose.
This race is deeply personal to me because my daughter, Arabella, has been a patient at Nationwide Children's Hospital since before she was born. During my pregnancy, we learned that things weren't going as expected, and because of the incredible care available here in Ohio, we were able to prepare for what was ahead.
Arabella knew she wanted to keep us on our toes, though. She decided to arrive at just 32 weeks and spent 43 days in the NICU at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Thanks to an amazing team of doctors, nurses, social workers, and countless other staff members, we went home before her due date with a plan, support, and hope.
Since 2013, Arabella has had more appointments and surgeries than many people will experience in a lifetime. Our journey with Nationwide Children's has shaped our family in ways I never could have imagined. Every clinic we've worked with has played an important role in her life, and each one deserves recognition and support. My first year fundraising, I supported the Craniofacial Clinic. For the past two years, I've chosen to support the Center for Colorectal & Pelvic Reconstruction (CCPR).
CCPR has been truly life-changing for Arabella. One of the greatest gifts they've given her is the ability to be independent in the bathroom—something many people take for granted, but something that represents years of surgeries, appointments, and determination. More than anything, they've given her confidence and independence, and that's why I'm so passionate about supporting this clinic.
This year, Arabella turned 13.
Thirteen.
We've been on this rollercoaster together for 13 years, and she is hands down the coolest, chillest, most resilient, kick-butt person I know. Watching her grow into the person she is today has been one of the greatest joys of my life. It's also been incredible to see how many people have loved and supported her along the way.
Running started as a way for me to cope. I needed an outlet that helped me become the best parent I could be. I never imagined I'd become a runner, let alone someone who looks forward to half marathons and fundraising. But three years ago, I signed up for my first race, and running has become part of who I am. I've found an amazing run club, I get to train alongside my sister, and every mile reminds me of the greatest lesson Arabella has ever taught me: perseverance.
If you're able, I'd be so grateful if you would consider making a donation to support the Center for Colorectal & Pelvic Reconstruction at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Every dollar helps families like ours receive the care, support, and hope they've given us.
If donating isn't possible, sharing this page and Bella's story means more than you know.
Thank you for supporting Arabella, our family, and the incredible team at Nationwide Children's Hospital that helps children like her thrive every single day.
