Dear Family and Friends,
My name is Megan Burke, and I am a Nutrition and Dietetics student at the University of Cincinnati. This fall, I am running my first marathon. I am so excited and honored to participate as a Children's Champion in partnership with the Nationwide Children's Hospital Columbus Marathon. A lot has happened over the past couple of years and the hospital and the patients they treat still need our support.
Now, more than ever, the dollars we raise are critical. So many of us are experiencing challenges like we have never faced in our lifetime and, as you can imagine, Nationwide Children’s Hospital is no exception.

My personal fundraising goal for this program is $5000. Any contribution you can make is greatly appreciated and will make a difference in the lives of children and families worldwide. Nationwide Children's Hospital is proud to treat patients from 50 states and over 60 countries.
I am overjoyed to have the opportunity to raise money for the Burn Unit at the Nationwide Children's Hospital. As a burn survivor, spreading awareness for burn patients and collecting funds for the hospital's enhanced equipment and education is very special to me. My fundraiser, "Overcome the Outcome" will aid progression and bring comfort to the patients. Through my personal experience, growth, strength, and a new perspective on life were revealed. I hope to advocate positivity to the children who have been affected by burns by proclaiming the beauty behind their changed appearance and encouraging their physical and mental growth.
As I was waiting in line to pray a rosary with my parents on Good Friday, a woman in front of us complimented my Hoka running shoes. She proceeded to ask about my running journey and suggested that I look into the Columbus Marathon. I ran a 1/2 marathon the previous May and was looking for a marathon to participate in within the next year, or so. About a month later, in May, I decided to begin my training for the October marathon. Once I signed up, I realized the marathon supported their children's hospital and I had the option to raise money for a specific unit of the hospital if I desired to. Of course, I chose the Burn Unit. Right then, it became obvious that it was God's plan for me to meet that woman on Good Friday and sign up for this race, particularly. I am blessed to be given this experience, so any dollar donated will certainly brighten mine and the children's day. Now, this race means more to me than just a physical accomplishment. It's an opportunity for me to vocalize something near to my heart by demonstrating determination, strength, and confidence.
