I will be participating in the 2021 Milwaukee Marathon on Saturday, April 11th, 2021. This will be my first attempt at running a full 26 miles. I am beyond excited for the challenge! This has been a personal pursuit I have been working towards for some time, but I thought it would be a great opportunity to do something useful for the world simultaneously.
I have decided to raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The BCRF is a nonprofit organization committed to achieving prevention and a cure for breast cancer. They provide critical funding for cancer research worldwide to fuel advances in tumor biology, genetics, prevention, treatment, metastasis and survivorship. They are rated as one of the best cancer related non-profits out there. They spend a whopping 88% of their funds on cancer programs. I think they can make a big difference.
My mother passed way from cancer on January 28th, 2009, when I was 16 years old. She spent many years fighting it, going in and out of remission. It turned my whole life upside down. Needless to say, breast cancer research is a very personal subject for me. I hope that continued research can lead to breakthroughs that can help prevent what she had to go through, and what I had to go through. I hope that my contribution can help the BCRF do their part to keep moms alive and keep families together!
Any help is greatly appreciated! If anybody is interested. I can provide updates on how my training is going. I can also post updates during the race! Thank you for the consideration.
Peace and love,
- Carl
