They say that when you’re on a journey through dementia, you don’t just lose the person you love; you lose the life you had planned together.
My husband, Rob, was a man of incredible spirit. But as he navigated the complexities of Parkinson’s disease, and eventually Parkinson’s dementia with Lewy bodies, I watched that spirit struggle to find its footing. It was a frightening, isolating time for both of us.
Then, we found Memory Matters.
Memory Matters wasn’t just a “program”—it was a lifeline. When Rob attended their Adult Social Day program, he wasn’t just a patient with a diagnosis; he was Rob again. He was able to be his best self, surrounded by people who saw his humanity, not just his symptoms.
And for me? I finally found the support I needed to be the caregiver I wanted to be. I wasn’t doing it alone anymore.
I’ve since dedicated my professional life to this organization because I know, firsthand, that there is nothing else like Memory Matters in our area. They provide the education, the interventions, and the community that keep families from breaking under the weight of this disease.
Why I’m Fundraising:
This year, my family and I are participating in the 6th Annual 5K to honor Rob’s memory and to ensure that no other family has to walk this path without a hand to hold.
Every dollar raised goes directly toward providing the first-class programs and services that gave us hope when we needed it most.
Please join me in supporting Memory Matters. Whether you run with us or donate to our team, you are helping us provide the gift of dignity, community, and support to families who are fighting for their loved ones every single day. Thanks for fundraising for Memory Matters.
Memory Matters provides various programs, services, and educational classes that provide peace of mind for families and individuals living with Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementia (ADRD).
