As someone who spent 10+ years in Vet Med, with 8 years of purely Emergency medicine under my belt, I experienced firsthand everything NOMV is rallying against. I watched as my doctors got yelled at by clients, as my front desk staff got threatened, and as my fellow techs cried after a patient died. I held their hands, offered a hug, or even had an emergency stock of fruit snacks, just to get a little smile for a second. We give our all to our profession and the only ones who also understand are our peers. I am no stranger to the burn and for my own mental health, I made that tough decision to leave the floor. Teching is in my blood, and I'll likely do it in some form in the future, but until I get my mental health mended, I will stay away. I'm probably in the minority where I don't personally know a doctor who has lost their life giving their all for this profession, and I will consider myself blessed. We are all in this together. Look out for your friends. You never know the battles and demons they are fighting.
