Story

This year, my new goal is to complete a small section of the Edmund Fitzgerald swim along with 67 other relay team members to complete the rest of the route they were not able to complete after the shipwreck in 1975.  I will be doing the Thunder Bay Crossing leg with 3 other relay team members for a 23 mile swim on or around August 11 (depending on the weather and conditions around that date).

Thank you for supporting me in this historic, once-in-a-lifetime adventure that will carry on the legacy of the 29 men lost on the Edmund Fitzgerald 50 years ago.  By helping me meet my fundraising goal, you are also helping renovate the Whitefish Point Lighthouse that safeguards mariners along Lake Superior's "Shipwreck Coast."

Bio:

Laura Hall is from Grand Rapids, Michigan and loves the Great Lakes! She was inspired to swim the Edmund Fitzgerald to enjoy longer distance swimming with other crazy open water swimmers and raise money for maintaining the Whitefish Point Lighthouse. Her favorite activities are doing anything outside including hiking, cycling, running, and of course swimming.  Her family of 4 is always up for another adventure whether it is backpacking in the upper peninsula, canoeing on an inland lake, reading in a hammock in a forest, or exploring the many lighthouses in Michigan.

Laura is a geriatric nurse practitioner with Care Resources PACE that provides primary care and supportive services to the elderly population. Goals are to keep them home with family and staying active as long as possible instead of moving to a long-term care facility.  She loves working with patients and families to pursue effective goals of care and support quality of life across the spectrum.

In her free time she is part of Real Women Tri, a multisport club for women to support each other with any athletic endeavors.  She started doing triathlons after college to continue swimming (just had to start biking and running, too). She has done multiple triathlons, bikes, runs, and swims in Michigan and always loves to try new challenges.  Swimming across the Mackinac Straits has been one of her favorite events, and she can't wait to take on another long open water swim!
