The Cross Bay Swim is a challenging open water swim of 5.5 miles across Great South Bay from the Fire Island Lighthouse to Brightwaters, and was first held in 1927. Proceeds of the event help fund the Hospice Care Network Children and Family Bereavement program, which provides a safe and caring environment, helping children and their families through bereavement.
I am looking forward to completing this personal challenge I set for myself over a year ago. I’ve followed this event since my youth as a swimmer for SayBayBlue, and have seen past teammates and competitors participate over the years, but never thought about it for myself. In fall of 2023, I made the intention of competing in this event before I turned 40. I have spent the last year+ getting back in the pool and participating in open water events. Bonus, I’m trying 3 years early!
As a working mom of 3 kids, aged 4, 7, & 9, finding time for myself is a challenge. But getting back in the pool, and taking the space to find swim again on my own time, has been incredibly rewarding. I can’t wait to participate in this event, raise money for an AMAZING cause, and fulfill a personal goal.
