Riding for Those We Lost. Pedaling for Those Still Fighting.

This year, I'm riding 30 miles in Pedal the Cause for the fourth consecutive year.

I first became involved after losing my mother, Middy, and my former husband, Peter, to cancer in 2013. As a caregiver for both, I experienced the helplessness that comes with watching someone you love endure this disease. That's why I chose to turn my grief into action by supporting cancer research through Pedal the Cause.

Cancer research has come a long way in the past twelve years. I often think about how different Middy's and Peter's journeys might have been if they had access to today's treatments and breakthroughs.

This year, I'm not just riding in their memory. I'm also riding for two women who remind me every day why continued research and breakthroughs matter so much.

One is a lifelong friend battling Stage 4 melanoma, and the other is my riding partner of the past three years, who is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Their courage, determination, and optimism inspire me every day. As friends, we can offer support, prayers, and encouragement. But research offers something even greater: hope for better treatments, longer lives, and ultimately, a cure.

That's why this ride matters.

Through Pedal the Cause, 100% of every dollar raised supports lifesaving cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children's Hospital.

I ride to honor those I've lost, support those still fighting, and help create a future where fewer families experience the heartbreak of cancer.
