The importance of a Child Advocacy center is immeasurable. I am fundraising for Step Up 4 Kids because all of the proceeds benefit McMahon Ryan Child Advocacy Center. The center helps children in Onondaga County who have been sexually and/or physically abused. The center helps over 1,500 children a year and are able to provide services for these children at no cost thanks to generous donors in our community. The center educates 20,000 kids across Central New York schools to recognize what abuse is. When I started to talk to my then, 5 year old about it last year, she told me that McMahon Ryan had presented at her school the day before. I was so relieved. When I became active with the organization, I had no idea the magnitude the resources they offer; and the lives they touch and save. April is Child Abuse Awareness Month. One in ten kids are sexually abused by their 18th Birthday. As Stella & I placed the pinwheels in our yard we talked about how EVERY child deserves to feel safe and to be loved.
