Every year Wild Hearts Fun Run teams and participants rally together to raise funds to help children battle Congenital Heart Defects! This money goes to travel expenses, hospital expenses, research, emotional support and more!
Our daughter, Emma, was diagnosed with sinus venous atrial septal defect, and an anomalous pulmonary vein. To our knowledge, she was completely healthy. We went to the pediatrician following having a cold. They heard what they thought was a murmur and referred us to cardiology. After several months and multiple tests, they found a congenital heart defect. After multiple delayed surgeries, Emma finally had open heart surgery. She did GREAT with the surgery and has fully recovered since. Emma will have to follow a cardiologist for the rest of her life, but fingers crossed she will not need a future surgery.
Having a sick kid that needed surgery is something I hope no other parent will ever have to go through.
