Emma's Story-
"Three years ago my story began during the end of my 5th grade year. It has been a journey that started with pain in my wrist that later progressed to full body pain, in every part of my body. I was diagnosed with Amplified Musculoskeletal Pain Syndrome (AMPS) when I was 11 years old in 2017. AMPS kept me from attending school, hanging out with friends and having a normal life. I went through sleepless nights, I was confined to a wheelchair, unable to walk and stand, and just touching parts of my body felt like horrible, unbearable pain. Tons of doctors appointments, failed medicines and months of therapy later, I realized I would need some extra help in controlling AMPS. My family and I went to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) last September of 2019, living there for 4 weeks. I did hours upon hours of physical, occupational, and physiological therapy under the direction of Dr. Sherry, before I was finally able to say I would be able to get this crazy syndrome under control. I still had a couple rough months after getting back but now in June of 2020, I can say that three years later I am better, I control AMPS, it doesn't control me, and I am happy again! I would truly appreciate your support in running along side me as a way to say "AMPS is no longer the boss of me"!"

I need YOUR help to make this event a success. Will you help me? You can walk/run/bike/stroll with us in person at your own pace or if you can't make it, run for me in your own hometown. Or if you would rather, all donations are welcome!
We will be meeting for our own in-person AMPS 5K on Saturday, June 27 at 10am at the Neuse River Greenway, Raleigh, NC. The entrance is across the street (Old Falls of Neuse) from the Bike Shop at 12030 Old Falls of Neuse Road. Meet in the parking lot by the canoe launch at the greenway entrance.
All funds raised will go toward purchasing supplies for the program that may not be covered by hospital budget but allow us to provide the most creative and effective treatment plan for each patient who comes into the program, toward outings for program patients in order to practice being functional in their environment as well as toward research into AMPS. This research benefits all those who suffer from AMPS now and those who may suffer from it in the future, allowing us to treat each patient with evidence based treatment plans whether in clinic, outpatient or as a part of our intensive program.
Every dollar donated is tax deductible through the RND Educational Foundation. Learn more about AMPS https://stopchildhoodpain.org/
