When you're a mom who works with leather every day and has a Leatherneck son serving overseas — a 5K run to help veterans, military families and first responders isn't just close to our heart. It IS our heart.
I'm Robyn Deering, proud owner of Fibrenew Cape Coral and even prouder mom of Corporal Jesse Deering, U.S. Marine Corps, currently stationed in Okinawa, Japan — and his brother, Fibrenew Co-Owner, Luke Deering. If you know anything about Marines, you've probably heard them called "Leathernecks" — one of the oldest and most respected nicknames in American military history. It dates back to the late 1700s, when Marines wore a stiff leather collar as part of their uniform, meant to keep them standing tall and battle-ready. The collar is long gone, but the toughness, pride, and honor behind that name never faded.
At Fibrenew Cape Coral, we restore leather, vinyl, and plastic — breathing new life into worn furniture, auto interiors, and commercial spaces right here in Cape Coral and the surrounding communities and islands. But behind our work runs a story a little deeper than leather. We are more than a business — we are a military family and that's why we are proud to be joining forces with Priority Business Solutions for the Freedom 5K & Kids Fun Run this July 4th, as fellow members of the Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce. Together, we're coming together as a community to honor the people who sacrifice so much for all of us — and raising donations for two incredible organizations that serve our local heroes every day:
🎖️ The Brotherhood of Heroes Resource Center and Museum — dedicated to supporting first responders, active military, veterans and their families right here in Cape Coral. For many, help is just a visit or a phone call away.
🎖️ The Special Operations Communicators Association (SOCA) — preserving the bond between those who have honorably served with the Joint Communications Unit of the U.S. Armed Forces, honoring their memory and providing real aid to members, veterans and their families in need.
Whether you donate, run, walk or cheer from the sidelines — be a part of this. Join a community that refuses to let its heroes go unrecognized or unsupported. As our thank-you, every donor receives a special discount on any of our Fibrenew services.
From our family to yours — and to every Leatherneck, first responder and military family out there:
We see you.
We honor you.
With pride and gratitude,
The Deering Family
