When you love someone struggling with addiction, you find yourself sometimes drowning in disbelief, confusion, guilt, loneliness, chaos and heartbreak. Fear and worry can overtake your days. The emotional rollercoaster of extreme highs and lows and everything in between can sabotage the joy you should have from all the goodness in your life. Your other relationships can suffer and your hope can fade. This is how I felt for many years while my son, Zach, struggled with a substance abuse disorder. After years of active addiction, stints of sobriety and relapse, Zach's health began to deteriorate and he developed Congestive Heart Failure. During Zach's addiction journey, I realized I needed help with my own journey. I needed to hear that it wasn't my fault, that I wasn't alone and that there was hope! I needed support from those who understood. There is a support group ministry called, Finding Hope. This group helped me so much that i wanted to help others that are experiencing the same journey of loving an addict. Zach continued fighting both a physical and an emotional battle for several years until he lost his fight last August, 2, 2023. I was able to be by his side as he passed from this earth to life in heaven to be with his Savior for all eternity. For that I am so grateful. There, he has no more pain and no more struggle...only joy! Now, I also attend and lead another support group called, Hope After Loss. Please give to this ministry if you feel called.
