Dear friends and fam,
The Oakland schools are facing a $100 million deficit next year and every school will lose key staff positions, from school counselors to violence interruptors. This ride is a way for many of us as public school parents to help raise funds to cover some of those losses and keep valued adults in the lives of our children.
I hope you’ll join me in this endeavor as I hop on my bike in April to join Ride 4A Reason -- an annual fundraiser and bike ride to Sacramento -- and try to bike 45 miles for the first time in my life. (Some people are biking a 125-mile route, but no.)
Last year, thanks to the riders and supporters of Ride 4A Reason, more than 6,000 kids in eleven public schools in Oakland and Alameda got to go on field trips or wear official team uniforms when they played team sports.
Over 17 years, R4R has raised close to $1.8 million for public schools in Oakland and Alameda.
My goal is to raise $500 by the time I hop on my bike on April 26. Can you donate today to help me get there? 100% of the funds I raise will go directly to the participating schools.
Thank you so much!
