In March 2023, a tiny kitten sustained life-threatening injuries after presumably being hit by a car. After two weeks in the ICU at PennVet, she beat the odds minus one hind leg, her tail, and losing the ability to urinate or defecate on her own. But this feisty, spirited, incredibly affectionate baby didn't let her disabilities slow her down one bit. For a year and a half, Newt (Fitz) waited for her forever home with her devoted foster moms and countless foster siblings. Her foster moms frequently discussed adopting her but thought if the right family came along who could give her the individual attention she deserved, then they'd let fate make the decision. Despite her special needs, she received a wonderful application and was due to have a meet and greet on the same day as the Scurry. Tragically, Figgy Newton unexpectedly and inexplicably became critically ill. Despite the best efforts of the heroic emergency and ICU teams at PennVet, she was too sick to fight this last fight. Newt's foster moms signed adoption papers before her passing and let her know she was home and always had been.
Now we walk for Fig Newton (formerly Fitz) and Stray Cat Relief Fund who never gave up on this perfect baby. They fought for her from day one until the very end. This incredible organization, led by an amazing group of women, needs support to keep helping cats like Newt in Philadelphia.
