My daughter, Sydney, has been recently diagnosed with moderate to severe dyslexia. While she is in second grade, her reading and writing can be placed in a late kindergarten level. Sydney is a spunky, fun-loving, hard working little girl who dreams of being able to meet the demands of the everyday classroom. As she becomes older, she has become self aware of the differences between herself and her fellow classmates who can read and write fluently for their grade level—yet another hurdle to overcome when you are dyslexic.
My hope is to help spread awareness about the struggles that children with dyslexia are faced with on a daily basis. While dyslexia is a learning disability in which most only consider the reading/writing aspect, many of these students are faced with social and emotional challenges as they try to navigate the typical school setting. This fundraiser can help provide money for scholarships for children AND teachers. More education and training is ESSENTIAL to help children with dyslexia. The more educators that know and understand how to meet the needs of children with the dyslexia, the more these children can actually succeed in school. What parent does not want that? These students CAN learn to read and write, they just need to be taught in a different way.
1 in 5 children have dyslexia. Sydney is one of them.
The need is SO great.
Any amount of money to help me reach my goal would be absolutely amazing!!!
