It's been 5 years.
In the past year, two men have been sentenced to decades in prison after being convicted in his murder. This has provided some #JusticeforJordan, but we continue to honor him through the Y in Central Maryland's Jordan Taylor Youth Development Fund.
Coach Jordan left an indelible mark on the families he touched. We are one of them. Ethan instantly bonded with Coach Jordan when he started at the Y Preschool at UMBC in 2017, and he eagerly participated in every single opportunity to interact with him: Soccer, Sports Mix, Lacrosse, Repeat. He couldn't get enough. And he'd always come home telling us about what Coach Jordan taught him or what Coach Jordan said. "Coach Jordan taught me to do it this way" was a common refrain in our house.
When we learned that Jordan had become a victim of senseless gun violence in November 2019, we joined the greater Y community in its devastation and heartbrokenness, in grieving the loss of an incredible person. I have taken comfort solely in the fact that my son is better for having known him.
Please help me support the Y in Central Maryland that Jordan loved and dedicated his life to by making a donation through my page. Proceeds from the Y Turkey Trot Charity 5K support the Y Open Doors fund enabling access and inclusion in healthy Y programs for all.
Here's how you can help!
Please support me by donating any amount to my page. Can't decide what amount to give? Check out these Y program costs to consider when making your donation.
- $25 covers the cost of a bag of groceries for a family or individual living in food insecurity
- $65 gives the gift of a Y Swim Lesson session to a child in your community, teaching them water safety and helping to develop their lifelong love of swimming.
- $115 enables an entire family to be included as members of the welcoming Y community for one month
- $357 sends a child to camp for a week, giving them safety, fun and learning while school’s out.
THANK YOU for your support.
PS. Please don't forget to share the Turkey Trot Charity 5K with your family and friends so they can join in the fun!
