As a single mother who struggled to overcome many obstacles as I gain my career, education, and stability, I was completely humbled by Take Heart's mission and stories. I quickly learned that even on my worst day of struggling I had it better than some of the women and children have it on their best day. As I have accomplished goals, retained a degree, and even received awards for great perseverance through adversity I feel that there is so much more I can be doing not for myself but for other single mothers who are just trying to make it in a world that does not make that easy for single parents. I have been led to advocate for these women and children to believe in them the way someone once believed in me. Who better to start trying to make a difference with than those that benefit from Take Heart.
The Leading Edge Take Heart (LETH) 5K is an annual event held in Lakeland, FL that makes a global impact in the lives of orphans and widows in rural Kenya. This year, the majority of funds raised will go towards education and entrepreneurship projects in the Oyuma Village community in rural Kenya. Runners and walkers alike can make a difference together by participating in this family community event around Lake Hollingsworth on Saturday Sept. 28th!
