Help support Whitebark Pine Ecosystem Foundation as I prepare to run in the Vacation Races Bryce Canyon Ultras!
I've agreed to raise money to support Whitebark Pine Ecosystem Foundation by registering for a Charity Bib for this event.
Whitebark Pine, limber pine, and other high-elevation five-needle pines are ecologically important conifers. They provide food for diverse wildlife including birds, bears, rodents, and foxes. Whitebark pine is being considered for endangered status in the United States because of the combined threats of non-native, encroaching fungal disease white pine blister rust, mountain pine beetle, and fire suppression. Limber pine is endangered in Alberta, Canada and may face decline in the US as white pine blister rust spreads.
The Mission of the Whitebark Pine Ecosystem Foundation shall be to promote the conservation of whitebark pine ecosystems by supporting restoration, education, management, and research projects that enhance knowledge and stewardship of these valuable ecosystems. Through the cooperative organization of the foundation, and networking with other organizations, government agencies, and individuals, we will be able to do together what we cannot do alone.
I have until May 4th, 2024, to reach my goal. Once I do, I'll be eligible to run! I can't wait to visit Bryce Canyon and see the limber pine growing there!
