Help us prevent lung cancer, one lap at a time!

Why are we asking for your help?

100% of your race registration fees and 100% of participant donations (either direct donations at registration or by family and friends on a donation page you set up) will be used to pay for fixing radon problems in low-income households in Maine.  Exposure to radon causes lung cancer, and your race participation and all donations really do make a difference.

All of Maine is at high risk for radon.  Here are the facts:

  • Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless radioactive gas that comes up from the ground and gets trapped inside buildings.
  • Exposure to radon causes lung cancer.
  • Radon is the #1 cause of lung cancer in non-smokers.  Only smoking causes more lung cancer than radon.
  • 1 in 3 Maine homes likely has a radon problem.  2 in 3 Maine homes in Cumberland County likely have radon problems.
  • Maine’s average radon level is 392% higher than the nationwide average
  • 310 Mainers contract radon-induced lung cancer each year.
  • 165 Mainers die each year from radon-induced lung cancer
  • Exposure to radon is preventable.

How much do we want to raise in 2026?

In 2026, we hope to raise a total of $7500 through our Indoor Insanity registrations and secondary donations.  $7500 can fix up to 5 Maine homes, preventing lung cancer in up to 5 Maine families.

How can you help?

Your participation in Indoor Insanity is the first step, since 100% of your registration fees will be used to fix radon problems in at least one Maine home.  But registrations alone won't get us over the finish line to meet our $7500 goal for 2026.

Please consider setting up a dedicated fundraising page, so you can reach out to your family, friends, colleagues, and connections to ask them to support your efforts to support this cause. We'll even reward you for your efforts!

Setting up a fundraising page is quick and easy, and you can use your page and this platform to invite people to support you, as well as thank them for their donations.  What can you win?  When you raise a minimum of $250, we'll reward you with a pair of running gloves.

And, for every additional $100 you raise, we'll give you a raffle ticket to win an overnight for two at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland, complete with a full breakfast and two tickets to the Portland Museum of Art.  The more you raise, the more chances you have to win.

In the fields below, you can set up a fundraiser page for your family, friends, and colleagues to visit to support your race participation.

The Maine Indoor Air Quality Council is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization.  100% of your race fees and donations may be tax deductible.

If you wish to support our efforts to prevent lung cancer in Maine but do not wish to make a payment on-line by credit card, donations can be forwarded to:
