Hi, I'm Katlin! Most of you know, but for those that don't, I was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma in January 2023 where I was referred to an amazing team located in Pittsburgh. While out there, I underwent radiation, surgery, and chemotherapy all in one year. I finished my last round of chemo in August 2023 and had scans done shortly after that confirmed I was cancer FREE! I am proud and beyond blessed to say that to this day I am still cancer free. Last year my mom and I decided we wanted to be a part of the Pittsburgh Cure Sarcoma 5k as the story and meaning behind it holds a very close place in our hearts. Last year I walked the 5k alongside my loved ones as well as many other survivors and supporters. After completing physical therapy and working hard to rehab my leg, I have decided to run the 5k this year in honor of all I have accomplished and endured since my diagnosis!
This foundation means so much to me as all money raised allows medical professionals to continue research on sarcoma related cancers to help better treat patients. The type of sarcoma I was diagnosed with, along with many others, are considered rare and have minimal data on treatment outcomes, survival rate, etc. The funding of this research is crucial for past, current, and future patients to be able to receive the best treatment course with the best outcome possible.
