Why I Am Running Across The Country to Support the American Cancer Society
A cancer diagnosis is life-changing for more than just the patient: for the mother, the father, the sister, the brother, the friend, the lover; for everyone who has been touched by the life that is now at risk.
I am proud to have been part of the establishment of an annual Relay For Life event at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, because I have personally received the heartbreaking phone call that no person should ever have to answer. I have felt the anxiety of having to sit in a waiting room. I have felt helpless in trying to support a warrior fighting his own body. I have loved a cancer survivor, and my life will never be the same because of it. In a mission to support the American Cancer Society’s mission to free the world from the pain and suffering from cancer, I have decided to run “across America.”
Funds raised support cancer patient programs and groundbreaking research that can help save lives. This event also celebrates over 15.5 million cancer survivors nationwide. 15.5 MILLION. That's huge.
