New Date: June 6, 2021
Hello Fellow Participants,
We hope this note finds you safe and healthy. We know this is a challenging time for everyone and we hope that you are putting your health and wellness first. As you my have seen, many events have cancelled or gone virtual as we move into Spring and slightly beyond. Unfortunately, our event is not structured well enough to go virtual nor do we have the proper technology to do so.
We have been closely monitoring the impact of the coronavirus alerts and in following the guidance from CDC experts and our local and state government, it is with such sadness that Castro Valley Sports Foundation (CVSF) Board of Directors have made the decision to cancel the 37th annual Lake Chabot Trail Challenge Half Marathon & 5K that was to be held on June 7th, 2020. It was a painstaking decision, but we value your health, safety, and well-being above all.
What does this mean for those who registered for this year’s event? We have provided a few options that you will be able to select.
1. If you are currently registered, your registration will automatically roll over to next year’s race, tentatively scheduled for Sunday, June 6th, 2021.
2. If you are not able to participate and would prefer to be refunded, you will be able to select that option and request it.
3. You may choose to donate your entire registration to the Castro Valley Sports Foundation as your last option. Our foundation supports the youth sports and athletics in our community. Find more info at www.castrovalleysportsfoundation.org
We do apologize for any inconveniences that may have resulted from our decision. Our priority is to ensure a safe event for all participants under a more favorable condition.
On behalf of myself and the Castro Valley Sports Foundation, we thank you for your support of this small event over the years. We look forward to seeing you on the running trails very soon.
Thank you for your patience. Please stay strong, safe and healthy.
Rachel Lunt, President, CVSF Board of Director & Event Director

Castro Valley Sports Foundation (CVSF) was founded in 2002, all volunteer-based, non-profit 510(c)(3) California organization that provides charitable assistance and support youth sports and athletics in Castro Valley. This fundraiser event and any sponsorship dollars will go directly to help widen and sustain sports participation in our community.
As CVSF pursues its commitment to raise funds for sports and athletics in Castro Valley, here is how CVSF has given back to the community:
In 2010, the CVSF donated $26,500 to the CVUSD to help fund all sports at CV high school and closed a CVUSD budget gap of over $250,000 that otherwise would have eliminated all high school sports at Castro Valley High School for 2010-2011 school year.
In 2008, the CVSF donated another $16,500 to various interscholastic sports programs at Castro Valley High School. The money was distributed in 17 grants ranging in value from $300 to $1,500 and included all girls and boys programs such as: storage container for track and field, electronic scoreboard for wrestling, pitching machine for girls' softball, place clock for swimming, helmets for football, and training equipment for soccer.
In 2007, the CVSF donated $4,500 for the purchase of a portable batting cage for the CVHS baseball program.
The CVSF donated more than $180,000 towards the CVHS football stadium project
Most recently between 2011 – 2018, CVSF has donated between $15,000 - $28,000 yearly through the grant program to different youth sports organizations and teams from CV Little League, Canyon/Creekside Middle School Tennis Program, Elementary Schools Track Programs, CV Track Club, CVSC Top Soccer Program and numerous CVHS sports programs.
CVSF invites local businesses to become a sponsor for this event. For sponsorship details, please contact Rachel Lunt at email@example.com.
