Join Downtown Yakima Mile and Legends Casino in running domestic violence out of Yakima!
Miles Against Violence pledge run will be run by internationally respected athlete and activist, Rosalie Fish, on July 2nd at the Downtown Yakima Mile. 100% of the money raised will go to YWCA Yakima and their life-saving services such as their 24-hour domestic violence emergency shelter, crisis hotline, affordable housing aid, legal advocacy, and more.
Fish runs with a red handprint across her face, fingers stretching across her cheeks, to honor and raise awareness for the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, People and Two-Spirit. Fish will begin running at the sound of the starting gun fired for the first heat of the Yakima Mile at 6:00 PM. Then, continuing to run miles up and down Yakima Ave. until approximately 2 1/2 hours later, when she will cross the finish line one last time, joined by the kids and elite runners in the final 1/4 mile race. The struggle to run this distance speaks to the pain and suffering of the many people we see at school, at work, and all around us who suffer in silence.
Running is inherently beautiful and powerful, but as Fish describes, “running becomes all the more beautiful when we run for each other.” You are invited to make a difference by registering for the Downtown Yakima Mile!
