PanMass, who me??
I have a vivid memory of the first time I rode a bike without training wheels. I was at the bus stop with the Loew Circle crew and hopped on my neighbor’s bike, not realizing it didn’t have training wheels and much to my surprise, I kept my balance.
Participating in the Pan Mass Challenge has been 5 years in the making. My dad (daddio, Tom, Tommy, MFIC, SUPREME, however you knew him) lost his fearless battle with cancer in November of 2019. Not long after, our worlds were interrupted by COVID-19 lockdowns. Unsure what was going on, I fled to the safest place I knew, home to Loew Circle. Weeks turned to months and the days were warming up. One day, I thought I should probably check to be sure my apartment in Savin Hill is still standing. I took my beach cruiser down the bike path and at some point (probably a really flat or downhill area) I thought this is really nice, maybe I should do the Pan-Mass Challenge. That 16-mile ride, with a lunch break and a couch sit in the middle, is like training wheels compared to the 2-day 162 mile trek I have committed to in August, 2025.

The Pan-Mass Challenge is a bike-a-thon that raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the country. Since its founding in 1980, PMC riders have raised over $1 billion for lifesaving cancer research, treatment, and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
