Why I Ruck

This April, I will be joining Tough Ruck Nation to complete a marathon with a 35lbs rucksack (backpack). Tough Ruck 26.2 Boston is an elite group of 1000 who ruck to HONOR AMERICA'S FALLEN MILITARY & FIRST RESPONDERS. We humbly carry the names of the Fallen on our rucks so we never forget those who served. We will also be raising critical funds for our Warriors. The basic ideal that drives our efforts is simple: as much as our Warriors have sacrificed, they and their families deserve the best care and support available in their hour of need.

On April 15, 2013, Tough Ruckers were at the finish line of the Boston Marathon and joined the first responders to help those that were injured by the horrific blasts. Being in Boston that day is an experience I'll never forget, but I was inspired by their bravery, alongside the bravery of my Dad, who serves as a Lieutenant in the Mass State Police, to one day join the first responder/military world. Being an EMT for the past 2 years has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life due to the people I've met and what they have taught me. I know my journey is just beginning. I have now spent 4 months as an ROTC cadet in the Liberty Battalion at Boston College and hope to commission and fulfill my contract with the US Army. I've learned that the first responder/military community of Massachusetts has strong, deep roots, and a love for one another like no other. I always feel I have so much to learn from the people within it.

I ask that if you are the loved one of a Fallen Servicemember, Police, Firefighter, EMS, or DOC, you feel free to reach out to me (margotjsonia@gmail.com or via facebook) so I can honor them with a ribbon on my rucksack and carry their memory across the finish line.
