Hi everyone and welcome to my fundraising page!
This year I am running the Big Sur marathon in proud support of the Semper Fi & America's Fund.
Running the Big Sur marathon has been a dream of mine since I was in high school. I used to volunteer handing out water at mile 8 and was in awe of the runners who ran this beautiful and challenging course. Finally I'm going to find out if I've got what it takes to make it across the finish line!
With your support I'm also hoping to reach the goal of fundraising $1800 towards Semper Fi & America's Fund, an organization that provides valuable services to veterans and their families, including housing and healthcare. Our servicemen and women have always been there to defend our country and this is an opportunity to give back for their service at a time of need. Semper Fi & America's Fund has given hundreds of millions of dollars in assistance and has the highest charity rating "A+"
You have the option to donate in memory of someone and I chose my amazing grandpa Bill Lopez. He grew up in San Diego's historic Barrio Logan and served in the navy as a mechanic on a submarine. He later became a nuclear physicist at San Diego State University. He could build computers from scratch! I remember when I was a kid he once taught me the Drake equation which calculates the probability of life in outer space. He had Parkinsons disease but when his medicine kicked in he would absolutely crush at ping pong. If you choose to donate in honor of someone who has served please consider sharing a memory :)
