And here we are again. Smack dab in the middle of a very hectic and unsettled stretch of life, while also honoring twenty-one years of navigating life with my brother’s brain injury.
Normally, during this fundraising effort, I have the opportunity to reflect and share a bit about my family, particularly my parents and the tremendous work they have done to create and sustain Old Farm Rockport, a group home for individuals with neurological conditions. But given the uncomfortable pace of life lately, I’m coming up a bit short on time and energy to reflect and share. I’m honoring that reality and simply asking for support.
About a decade after Nicholas’ accident, my parents took a brave step and helped open Old Farm Rockport (OFR), one of four residences operated by Supportive Living Inc. (SLI). Located in the heart of Rockport, MA, OFR provides affordable housing for people who have suffered brain injuries or have other cognitive disorders.
Shortly after OFR began its mission, Nicholas moved in. He now receives continuous care and has the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with his caregivers. Just as importantly, my parents have gained a little more breathing room to enjoy life at a more manageable pace during their golden years.
Over the years, my friends and family have answered this call in such a big way that SLI has come to look forward to what we can accomplish together. I’m so grateful for that, and I hope we can continue it again this year.
Please join me in supporting SLI, OFR, and the families whose lives are made more manageable because places like this exist. Any donation is appreciated.
