Trident Multisport introduces the Phoenix Sprint Triathlon and Duathlon to be held on September 27th, 2020 as a USAT sanctioned event. Unfortunately, Survival of the Mills that was originally scheduled on the same day was unable to happen due to race logistics and specific permitting agencies and has been postponed until 2021. This newly launched Phoenix Sprint is able to happen because it will be hosted by the privately owned scout reservation and has the support and approval from the local authorities.

The new Phoenix Sprint was created for the multisport athletes that feel safe racing during these times and are willing to follow the specific Covid plan that will be set forth. It has been a challenging year for the entire world and multisport athletes have been training hard only to be disappointed due to Covid restrictions and race cancellations. This race is for YOU, the ATHLETES! "It's time to rise from the ashes!"

Trident Multisport was established in 2012 with the idea of bringing quality multisport events to our local area and has worked hand and hand with DQ Events and their staff for over the last 8 years. We have established some high quality, fun, safe events that include the Stafford Run for Hope, the Survival of the Mills, and the Brookville Olympic/Sprint.

For the Phoenix Sprint, we have worked very hard and quickly to secure all the permits and permission from the local authorities and have their support to hold this race. If the state of NJ or the CDC changes any Covid safety guidelines that will impact the race we will make the necessary adjustments.

We will need 175 athlete’s signed up before Sept. 9th for this race to happen. That is a small window of time but we are confident that you can reach that number. There will be online registration only, no race day entries. If we don’t reach the required 175 athletes by  Sept. 9th you will receive a refund (minus Runsignup fees) or be able to use your entry for another Trident Multisport race in the future (2021 or 2022). So basically there is no risk to sign up.

If you feel unsure or unsafe during this time, please STAY HOME and don’t signup. If you feel sick or show any signs of illness close to race day, stay home and contact the RD prior to race day. This race is for athletes only, no spectators allowed. There will be packaged snacks/ water bottles at finish to pick up on way out but no awards ceremony. It is expected that when you finish your race you pack up and leave the race site to minimize any gatherings or crowds.

Our COVID Plan for the Phoenix Sprint Tri/Du is as follows:

  • This race is for ATHLETES ONLY, No spectators will be permitted. (Special circumstances will be accommodated, like minors who are racing, etc.) Please contact Race Director if needed.
  • All athletes will drive into the main entrance of the Joseph Citta Boyscout Camp. You will drive up to registration/ temperature check tents. You will roll your window down half way, a volunteer will perform a “non-contact” forehead temperature check. If you have a temp. over 100.4, you will have a second check. If still above, you will be asked to exit the race site and you will receive a race refund or credit towards 2021 or 2022 race, your choice. If temp. is below 100.4, you will get your race packet and be directed to parking and then proceed to your assigned transition area to get yourself setup.
  • Athletes are going to be required to practice social distancing and wear masks until the race starts. You will be provided a disposable mask in your race packet that you can discard at the start line of your race. Please remain 6 feet apart from other athletes and remember, NO SPECTATORS are allowed. Volunteers will also be wearing masks, gloves and social distancing. Bring your own personal mask for after race when packing up and heading to car.
  • There will be no pre-race athlete meeting. Athletes will be emailed specific race day instructions and course maps prior to race. It is your responsibility as an athlete to thoroughly read and understand the course and USAT guidelines set forth.
  • We will be limiting bike racks to 3/4 bikes. There will be 2 separate transition areas that will allow us to spread athletes out. Based on the numbers of registrations (tri vs. du), those areas will be detailed at a later time.
  • Duathletes will wear mask to start line and start together, unless large numbers dictate otherwise. When race starts, athletes can discard their masks.
  • Triathletes will wear their masks to the lake and swim area. There will be small waves to create distancing among the athletes during the race. Once in starting corral they can discard masks. Waves will be determined by numbers in each age group and gender.
  • During the race, please be aware of your surroundings and courteous to fellow athletes when in close proximity or passing.
  • Athletes will be encouraged to wash their hands with Hand Sanitizing Stations at the restrooms, transition area and at the finish line area before and after the event. When waiting for restrooms/ port-a-potties athletes will maintain social distancing of 6 feet part.
  • At the conclusion of your race, we ask that you pack up your belongings and please exit the race site. All results will be posted and emailed later that day. Once award winners are determined, you can pick them up at a bike/running store TBA.
  • Guaranteed size Finisher Tee-shirts for all finishers registered prior to Sept. 9th.
  • Any athletes that are found not complying with these guidelines will be disqualified by the Race Director and/or ) Officials. Again if you can’t follow these guidelines set forth, please don’t sign up!
