Description
The Monarchs In Motion 5K Run and Family Fitness Walk is a family oriented event that embraces fitness for a healthy lifestyle, enhances the community we live in, and brings together the St. Mary Magdalene and Apex communities.
All event proceeds will go to the StMM Church Building Fund.
Race start and finish are at the St. Mary Magdalene parking lot located off of Town Side Drive in Apex. Our address is 625 Magdala Place, Apex, NC 27502.
On race day, if you need anything, please look for a STAFF member wearing a maroon shirt or a VOLUNTEER in a yellow shirt.
Registration Types/Fees:
Family (5K recreational or family fitness walk)- $60 through Apr 24, $65 after Apr 24, plus $5 per person to be officially timed
Single (officially timed)- $25 through Apr 24, $30 after Apr 24
Single (not timed or eligible for awards)- $20 through Apr 24, $25 after Apr 24
Single (10 & under, not timed or eligible for awards)- $10 through Apr 24, $15 after Apr 24
Timeline of Events:
6:00 am – Parking lot opens
6:30 am – Packet pick-up and late registration begin
7:30 am – Refreshments available
7:40 am – Yoga warm up
7:45 am – Star Spangled Banner & raising of the flag
7:59 am – Fr Staib blessing
8:00 am – Race start
8:45 am - Awards
9:15 am – Children’s Fun Run
9:30 am – Clean up starts
Packet Pick-up:
All participants must pick-up their race packet prior to 7:30 a.m. on Race Day at one of the following times:
Friday, May 12, 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. St. Mary Magdalene Activities Building – Adult Room
Race Day, May 13, 6:30 a.m. – 7:30 a.m. St. Mary Magdalene Activities Building – Adult Room
Late Race Registration:
If you have friends or family members who have not signed up for the 5K yet, there is still time to register! Please have them stop-in at Packet Pick-up (Friday) or on Race Day morning until 7:30 a.m. to register.
Please note that t-shirts were pre-ordered and are not guaranteed to late and/or Race Day registrants.
Also, if you want to register on race day and are under 18, you must have a parent/legal guardian’s signature on the race form.
Course Route:
We are a USATF certified 5K course that runs through the adjacent neighborhoods. Race course is blocked to all car traffic on Race Day for the safety of our participants.
Please be aware of the speed bumps in the StMM parking lot as you begin the race! There will be course marshals with signs to let you know where these are. Be careful as you cross them at the start and end of the course.
Competitive Participants:
Disposable timing chips will be on the back of your bibs when you pick them up.
Race Day Parking:
It is recommended that you arrive at the race site around 7 a.m. as Town Side Drive will be closing at 7:30 a.m..
Premier parking is available in the upper and lower lots of St. Mary Magdalene - first come, first served as coordinated by the race parking staff. To ensure the safety of all participants, cars parked in the upper lot of STMM will not be allowed to leave until all race activities have concluded approximately 9:00 a.m. At 7:30 a.m., the Apex Police Department will direct you to park along Town Home Drive or in the open field located at the corner of Town Home Drive and Village Commons Lane. Parking on Apex BBQ Rd will not be permitted.
As always, carpooling is encouraged as it saves fuel and frees up spots!
5K Race Start - 8 a.m. Sharp!
The race start and finish are located at St. Mary Magdalene Church – 625 Magdala Place, Apex.
Competitive runners with a sub 6, 6-minute, 7-minute and 8-minute mile pace, respectively, will be at the head of the pack, followed by the other competitive runners – those with timing chips.
We ask that recreational entrants, 1.5 mile fitness walkers and especially those with strollers position themselves at the back of the pack.
Race Course Safety:
Police officers will be blocking most intersections, but please be sure to watch out for any vehicles you may encounter. Volunteers, who will be wearing yellow shirts , and directional arrows placed in orange cones will be located throughout the course to help guide you during the race. Also, there is a water station on the course that you will pass twice.
Medical Staff:
If you have a medical need, please see a volunteer (yellow shirt), staff member (maroon shirt) or a member of Apex Fire or Police to direct you to the Apex EMS that will be located on site in the STMM Lot.
Pre & Post-Race Food and Drinks:
Afterward, please visit our Food & Drinks area to enjoy fresh bagels from Bruegger’s Bagels, bananas & oranges from Harris Teeter, Lowe's Foods & WalMart.
Rest Rooms:
For your convenience, restrooms are located on the upper and lower levels of the St. Mary Magdalene Activities Building.

Children's Fun Run:
Kids ages 10 and under are invited to join our special guests, Monty the Monarch and Harry the Harris Teeter Dragon, in our fun run in the upper lot at approximately 8:45 a.m. Registration is not required and all kids will receive an official Monarchs in Motion hand stamp as a prize!
Weather:
There are no refunds for this event. If, for reasons out of our control (i.e. severe lightning), we are unable to hold the event on the scheduled day, the race will be cancelled and not rescheduled.
If we do see lightning, we will use the standard 20 minute rule to see if it passes and commence the race from there.
Should we require the race to be cancelled, we will make all t-shirts available to those that registered before the deadline of April 24.
Rain or shine, we will make every effort to run the race as long as it is safe to do!
Lastly, the race staff would like to acknowledge and thank the Scotts Mill, Magnolia and The Green neighborhoods. We are using their streets and asking them to put their lives on hold for an hour. Please be considerate of their property and if you see a resident, please give them hearty thanks as you pass!
