Description

There are significant changes to this year's race! Please carefully read below. For more information about why these changes were made
please click here to read a letter from the Bradenton Runners Club Board of Directors

The 21st Annual Bradenton Runners Club Turkey Trot will be held in Bradenton again this year on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 22nd.  A unique and widely attended family-oriented community event, this race has never charged a registration fee, instead we ask all participants to recognize the efforts of selected local charities and help offset event costs through making donations via our registration page or race day (cash or canned goods).

As we did last year, we are offering the option to purchase a special edition Turkey Trot race shirt, including our turkeys amid runners logo.  Please note that the shirts are an additional charge (shirts not picked up race day will be resold after the race and will not be shipped).

Due to permitting and venue restrictions, this race has been moved to GT Bray park and is a 5k run.  Moving the race to GT Bray allows for more parking, and less of a walk to the starting line!  There will be one water stop.

Race number pickup at pre registration tables starting at 6:45am on race day.  Race Day Registration closes 7:45am.  Starting Gun 8:00am.  The overall Top Five Male and Female runners will receive a delicious pie for their Thanksgiving celebration.  There are no age group awards.

Limited race day registration will also be available if space is available.  Parking is limited in the area near the start, so please allow extra time as the later you arrive, the further away from the start/finish you will have to park.

Questions?
The "Give To Run" Initiative

~The goal of this race is for each participant to donate their registration fees to the two charities listed.  We ask that you donate what you would typically pay for a 5k race by donating during the registration process or giving cash or check (written to Turning Points or The Food Bank of Manatee" on race day
~Please consider donating gently used clothing, socks, shoes and blankets
~Please consider donating nonperishable food items will be collected on race day
~In the spirit of Thanksgiving, in addition to our recognition of charities supporting those in need, participants are asked to bring something to share with the other participants.  Running favorites like bagels, bananas, oranges, energy bars, sport drinks or water are always welcome and make for a great post race gathering.  It is a great way to start the holiday.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do Runners get a shirt?
Answer: This free event does not have any of the freebies of a typical race. However, you may purchase a Turkey Trot shirt at the race or online during registration. Shirts can be picked up on race day.

Q: Can I register by mail?
Answer: No. There is no cap so you can register on race day by simply filling out a waiver of liability form and picking up a bib.....after you make your donation of course!

Q: How much is this event?
Answer: You determine your event fee! The purpose of this event is to raise money for local charities. We ask that you pay what you feel is appropriate for a 5k in terms of a donation either online, cash/check on race day and/or clothing, shoes, blankets and nonperishable food items.

Q: I'm not sure if I'm registered, what should I do?
Answer: If you registered online or at an event, you should have received a confirmation email.  Be sure to check your spam filter if you cannot find the confirmation email.  If you think you may have deleted the email, you can search the Particpant List by clicking here.

Q: How do I pick up my race packet?
Answer: There are no packets for this race but you must pick up your assigned bib number so we can ensure every runner has signed and completed the safety waiver.  There will be a separate location to pick up any shirts you may have purchased.

Q: Can I register on race day?
Answer: Absolutely.  There is no cap for this race. We do require all runners to sign a waiver and wear a bib for the event to indicate a signed waiver form has been completed, therefore registration is very quick!

Q: How is the race timed?
Answer: In order to provide a free race and ensure our volunteers can spend time with their families on the holiday finishing place and times are not tracked for this race

Q: Will there be plenty of parking?
Answer: Yes.  We have never run out of parking at various parking lots at GT Bray Park but some walking may be required.

Q: Where is the starting area?
Answer: The starting area is on 33rd Ave Dr, just inside the 51st St W park entrance

Q: Where is the finish line?
Answer: The finish line is near the ampitheater

Q: Can my friends and family watch me finish or participate?
Answer:  There are a few points on the course where spectators can get a glimpse of the runners.  Additionally, there is generally enough room for spectators to watch participants near the end of the race or at the finish line. However, for runners safety, spectators will not be allowed on the course while the race is still in progress.

Q: Are strollers allowed?
Answer: As a member of RRCA we observe all guidelines and recommendations related to safety.  Strollers present a risk to other runners and are strongly discourage at our events.  The revised Turkey Trot run in particular has various types of terrain including soft sand, trails and divots which makes it difficult for strollers. All participants must sign a waiver stating "If I violate the safety guidelines I accept legal responsibility for any injuries I may directly or indirectly cause to myself and/or others."  Any participants arriving with strollers must wait to line up until ALL runners have gathered and remain at the back of the crowd to avoid tripping or falling hazards.

Q: Can I run with my dog?
Answer: As a member of RRCA we observe all guidelines and recommendations related to safety.  Dogs present a risk to other runners and are strongly discourage at our events.  Dogs and crowds often don't mix and are strongly discouraged at our events due to tripping hazards and unpredictable behavior.  In crowded, unfamiliar places, even well-mannered dogs can become unpredictable and protective of their owner.  All participants must sign a waiver stating "If I violate the safety guidelines I accept legal responsibility for any injuries I may directly or indirectly cause to myself and/or others."

Q: What about headphones?
Answer: Headphones are strongly discouraged due to safety concerns and any participants wearing headphones during a race accept legal responsibility for any injuries caused to themselves or others.

The use of personal music devices is strongly discoruaged at this race. To enjoy all that our race has to offer and for the safety of all participants, The Bradenton Runners Club encourages a headphone-free environment during the running of the Manatee River Run.

We believe your race experience and those around you will be greatly enhanced by leaving the headphones at home or in the car. Running headphone-free allows opportunities to develop camaraderie with your fellow runners and to enjoy everything the race has to offer. Plus, volunteers and spectators will be on course cheering you on and providing directions to help get you to the finish line.

Runner safety has always been, and will continue to be, a top priority for our event. Please be mindful of the other participants and respect the race personnel to ensure a safe and enjoyable race for everyone.

Q: What time should I arrive?
Answer: Registration opens at 6:30 am. Every runner must pick up a bib to ensure the safety waiver has been signed. Bibs are not chipped.  Registration will close at 7:45am.  We strongly recommend all participants and spectators arrive no later than 7:15 to park, pick up bibs and walk to the park entrance.

Q: Is there a time limit?
Answer: A timer will be available to view your finishing time but we will not be tracking finishing times by runner or posting results.

Q: Can I walk this event?
Answer: Yes, although keep in mind this race is held on Thanksgiving which means volunteers and race organizers are eager to get home to start their holiday cooking. As a result, the course will close at 9:00am

Q: Will there be water stations?
Answer: Yes. there is 1 water station available for this race about half way through the course
