In memory of Sgt. Jon Poole and SPC Eddie Uribe, who valiantly served their country and sadly left this world too early at their own hands. It is estimated that every single day, 22 veterans of our armed forces take their own lives. We must work together to be proactive and help reverse this statistic. This is our part.
A unique endurance event, the Bear the Burden 22k Ruck March will task participants to carry 35# on their backs in the form of a “ruck” and make their way along our out and back 22k course. The ruck march has many meanings, but for this event it means to symbolically ‘carry the load’ that the service members can no longer carry. The event will be held on Saturday, October 13th, at CrossFit Ignis located on University Drive across from Pulaski County High School. The event will kick off at 8:00a.m. with participant check-ins and ruck checks. The Ruck March will start at 9 a.m.
Our goal with this event is to raise awareness for combat veteran suicide as well as to raise money for Stop Soldier Suicide, a charity whose sole purpose is to change the statistics of veteran suicide. Stop Soldier Suicide is a veteran-founded-and-led 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that works 1-on-1 with troops, veterans, and military family members to help navigate the maze of services, programs, and assistance available. Their team works to identify each individual’s specific needs, find the right resources to meet those needs, and provide continued support and personalized case management for 24 months.
