Join us for the First Annual Momentus Backyard Ultra & Fun Run!

Welcome to a groundbreaking trail race event, perfect for novice joggers, performance hikers, and seasoned ultrarunners alike. This event promises to be a celebration of endurance, community, and the scenic beauty of Williams' Rushing Farms. Set in the tranquil Charlotte area, the inaugural Momentus Backyard Ultra & Fun Run is designed to inspire, challenge, and motivate everyone.

Race Overview:

Embrace the unique challenge of the Backyard Ultra, where the race extends until only one runner remains standing. Alternatively, our Fun Run offers a gentler challenge with 2-hour formats to complete either one or two 4.167-mile loops. Lastly, challenge your strength and conditioning with a Fun Ruck where participants carry weight over the same distance in a fast hike pace. This format encourages runners to push their limits, whether that's reaching a personal best or conquering greater distances than ever before.

Venue Highlights:

Williams Rushing Farms, a picturesque 100-acre private property, offers a race track like no other. Your run will weave through whispering woods, a vibrant wheat field, and around a peaceful pond, creating a running experience that's not only a physical challenge but also a feast for the senses. Backyard Rules:

So what is a Backyard Trail Race?  Read the official Backyard Ultra rules below:

  • The course is 4.167 miles long
  • Runners must complete the course, called a "YARD", within the hour
  • Runners must be in the start box at the top of the hour.  Any runner not in the start box by the time the next loop starts will receive a DNF
  • Each YARD starts at the top of the hour.  3, 2 and 1 minute warnings will be given
  • Runners have 1 hour to complete each YARD.  If a runner finishes before the hour is up, they can use that additional time however they like but must report back to the start box before the next YARD starts.
  • All YARDS must be completed within one hour to be counted, including the last YARD
  • Competitors may not leave the course during a YARD
  • No assistance can be provided on the course; the runner cannot take aid or hand off gear to any person during the loop. Runners may only receive aid after they complete a YARD and before re-entering the start box for the next YARD
  • No non-competitors, including eliminated runners, are NOT permitted on the course at any time
  • Cheering and spectating is allowed and encouraged from the Race Headquarters / Race Village ONLY
  • Slower runners must allow others to pass
  • No artificial aids (including trekking poles) are allowed
  • If no runner can complete one more YARD within one hour alone, after all other runners DNF, there is no winner

Additional Details & Rules for the Momentus Backyard Ultra & Fun Run:

Support and Gear:

Every runner is encouraged to bring their own crew and gear to enhance their racing experience. While the essentials like food, water, and personal comfort items are crucial, you are also welcome to bring tents, chairs, and contained cooking devices such as smokeless fire pits or small camping grills. Please note, all support activities must be confined to the designated parking lot and Village area. Crew members are not permitted on the course outside of the Village, ensuring runner safety and fairness.

Sustainability Efforts:

In our commitment to environmental conservation, this event is cupless. Runners must bring their own refillable hydration systems—be it water bottles, cups, or vests. We will provide water refilling stations specifically for registered runners. Spectators and support teams must be self-sufficient regarding their hydration and nutritional needs. Runners should come prepared with all necessary sustenance to fuel their endurance challenge for the duration of the event.

Safety Requirements:

For those running into the night, proper illumination is mandatory. Each runner must have a headlamp or an alternative personal light source after dark. Entry into a new Yard post-sunset is contingent upon having these light sources readily available. This rule is strict and will be enforced for the safety of all participants.

Amenities Available On-Site:
  • Emergency Medical Staff: there will be EMT on site for the duration of the event
  • Refreshments for Purchase: Bottled water, beverages, and light snacks will be available.
  • Race Essentials for Purchase: Essential run items such as lubricants, socks, headlamps, and nutritional gels can be bought on-site.
  • Sanitary Facilities: Portable bathrooms will be provided; however, please be aware there are no faucets or facilities for washing available.

These guidelines are designed to ensure that the Momentus Backyard Ultra & Fun Run is not only a challenge but also a safe, sustainable, and enjoyable event for all. We look forward to seeing you push your limits and experience the unique beauty and community spirit at Williams Rushing Farms. Gear up for a truly Momentus day!
