My passion for running started when I began training the last week of December in 2015 to run my very first Half Marathon in San Diego, CA in 2016. I followed a training schedule for 11 weeks and completed it Sunday, March 13, 2016. I was nervous and excited, but my initial plan was to check off the box that I did it. Once I completed that goal, I couldn't stop thinking about when I'd do the next one. I'm already signed up for 8 Half Marathons in 2017 and have completed 3 of the 8 as of May 8, 2017 which makes a total of 8 Half Marathons overall thus far.
My initial goal for 2017 was to run 7 but I will definitely exceed that goal. I was selected in the lottery for the Bank of American Marathon in Chicago in October and although I have yet to begin training I am thrilled to prepare and complete my very first Marathon. (26.2 miles nonstop) This journey has been more than running for me. As of May 8, 2017 I have completed 26 organized race events has ranging from distances of 5k's, 10k's, 12k's, 15k's, 10 miles, and Half Marathon's.
Through running I'm challenged to show the three sons I gave birth to what achieving your goals, and never giving up looks like. It has also been about healing from the inside out from a divorce and weight gain due to stress following the divorce. I have set mini goals and crushed every single one! I've met some amazing people throughout the journey and some that have become very close friends.
I look forward to seeing where this running journey takes me and I'm happy to be officially a Half Fanatic! Here's to more miles on the pavement and fun times across the world! I was NOT a fan of running when I was in the Army, but now as a Veteran I can't imagine my life without running. I couldn't be more honored to host my very first event as a Race Director. When you put your Faith at work, ANYTHING is possible. Phil 4:13
