Created in memory of my mother, Mary Ann's Red Slippers debuted at the Pittsburgh Cure Sarcoma Walk in 2024. Eager to start a tradition and continue supporting the cause, I humbly ask that everyone consider stepping out with the Red Slippers in 2025. We will have fun, probably cry a little, and, most importantly, raise much-needed cash to help kick this horrific disease in the fanny. I want to tell you that I recently toured the cancer research lab at AHN. I must say (and I'd be happy to tell you all about it in person) that fascinating and important things are happening there. PCS dollars (dollars that never go to salaries because PCS is run by volunteers) support AHN's research. That's a great thing.
So, you may be wondering how I got involved. It all started in the fall of 2022 when my mother noticed a tiny bump near the ankle on her left leg. She had been gardening and thought she had been bitten by a spider. But that bump grew into the size of a baseball within two months and then she was diagnosed with a rare soft-tissue/interconnective tissue sarcoma. The sarcoma was extremely aggressive and despite surgery and radiation, she passed away within nine months of diagnosis.
After my mother passed away, I happened to stumble across PCS googling. Shortly thereafter, I got involved, and the Red Slippers were born! Thanks to all of you who supported me and the cause last year. I hope I can count on your support again this year. For everyone else, I invite you to join us!
