Welcome to the Huntsville Track Club's
Rocket City Kids Marathon
Kids can be part of the Rocket City Marathon excitement by participating in the Rocket City Kids Marathon, a non-competitive event for children in grades K - 8! The Rocket City Kids Marathon is an "add-on" program where Kids become marathon finishers on Rocket City Marathon Weekend by completing the final mile of their cumulative marathon training program at the Rocket City Marathon's 1 Mile Family Run/Walk!
The Rocket City Kids Marathon is a 14-week running program that encourages kids to complete a full marathon (26.2 miles) by running approximately 1.75 miles per week. The final mile is completed in grand fashion as each child finishes their marathon distance with their friends and family in front of cheering fans at the Official Finish Line of the Rocket City Marathon located inside the South Hall of the Von Braun Center!
The goal of the Rocket City Kids Marathon is to Inspire and Encourage children to be active on a regular basis through running and physical activity.
Participants must train for the last mile by running a total of 25.2 miles in various increments. Miles are accumulated individually by each child either at home, at school, with parents, friends, or siblings. Coaches, PE teachers, and parents are encouraged to support each child to run and track their miles on the mileage log which can be found on the Kids Marathon RunSignUp main page. Mileage Boosters are held once a month in September, October, and November to encourage the participants to increase their mileage.
Donations are welcome using the "DONATE" button to support the Scholarship Program.
The Kids Marathon is for all students in grades K - 8. All participants will receive an Official Race T-shirt and finishers of the 1 Mile Family Run/Walk will receive a medal.
The 1 Mile Family Run/Walk is an independent event where family members and friends can sign up to run or walk the mile with their child, or participate on their own. All Kids Marathon participants will automatically be registered for the Rocket City 1 Mile Family Run/Walk.
Fun Along the Way
Program Kick Off will be on August 19th at 4:00 PM at Jones Family Park Pavilion! We will review program details and answer questions, then wrap up with a 1 mile fun run!
Mileage Booster runs to encourage an help keep your child motivated while accumulating miles are in the works!
The first Mileage Booster will be in September at the HTC's Autumn Chase Fun Run on September 17th This is an annual 1 mile race for all school age children grades K-8. Additional mileage boosters will be scheduled soon for October, and November. Be sure to also register for Autumn Chase if you will be in town for that! It's FREE!
Packet Pickup
Please note: There is NO Race Day Packet Pickup.
Packet pickup will take place in the South Hall of the VBC on Friday, December 11, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM CST.
We apologize in advance, but we are unable to mail T-Shirts or Medals.
