We have partnered with our host, Burns & McDonnell, since the beginning of Rock the Parkway and we are grateful that they are once again partnering with us in 2020! Burns & McDonnell not only hosts the event, they also provide scores of volunteers without whom we would not be able to hold the event. We are excited to once again partner with Children's Mercy, the region's top children's hospital, as our charity partner for the event. Learn more about Children's Mercy and the great work that they do for children from all over the world, at www.childrensmercy.org!
There will once again be a two day race expo in conjunction with Rock the Parkway on Thursday and Friday before the race. The expo will feature dozens of local vendors and upcoming races and will provide an opportunity for race registrants to pick up their packets before race day. There will also be a site on race morning near the start/finish for registrants to pick up their packets if they are not able to pick up their packet in advance.
The half marathon will utilize a wave start to allow participants to line up and start with others of a similar pace, reducing congestion at the beginning of the race. The 5K will have a separate start after the last wave of the half marathon start, approximately 20 minutes after the first wave of the half marathon. You will be able to select your wave based on your projected half marathon time when you register.
While we are planning for a beautiful day to celebrate the 11th annual Rock the Parkway event, weather in April in Kansas City can be tough to predict. The race director reserves the right to cancel the event if he deems it to be unsafe to run. In the event of a cancellation, which will not be decided in advance of the start of the race, no refunds will be given.
Make plans to stick around after the race to enjoy the food, beverages and entertainment in the post race plaza at the Burns & McDonnell world headquarters! We are excited about the mix of local restaurants, breweries and food companies that are joining together to provide participants a memorable experience. Stay tuned for more information about the post race plans for 2020!
