In memory of Amanda Cohen, we are fundraising for North Star Reach, a camp in Pinckney, MI that provides transformative camp experiences for children with serious health challenges and their families – free of charge. The Reinhart Charitable Foundation has generously offered to match the monies we raise at 50%. (So if you donate $20, Reinhart matches with $10 giving North Star Reach a total of $30!)
Located on 105 wooded acres and surrounded by freshwater lakes, sandy beaches, and rolling hills, North Star Reach is the only camp of its kind serving children with serious health challenges and their families across the Great Lakes Region. As part of the SeriousFun Children's Network, North Star Reach gives these children safe, medically-sound, fun-filled camp experiences that build confidence and foster joy. In the past year, North Star Reach has expanded to offer year-round whole-family centered programming, with more robust social support resources for parents and caregivers during these isolating and critical times.
North Star Reach has served nearly 3,000 children and their family members since opening in 2016. Although there is never a charge to campers and their families, the cost of providing a medically-sound experience to this very special group of kids is estimated at about $2,500 each.
Amanda loved her time as a camper at North Star Reach and met some of her best friends there. After she was no longer able to attend camp, she wanted to give other kids the opportunity to have the same experience and became a dedicated volunteer. She did not allow Pulmonary Hypertension to define who she was, even though it made her life more difficult. Her struggles drove her to lessen those of other people. Your gift of any amount helps deliver camp magic, connection and hope to campers and their families during a time when they need it most, just like it did for Amanda and our family.
